2017: The year of the #InsuranceMovement

It has been awesome to interact with the different IIG stakeholders over the last few months. The passion and commitment towards the IIG and our initiatives have been very inspiring. It’s a great privilege to lead the IIG in the year that we boldly seek to collaborate with like-minded insurance bodies to establish the educational bursary fund and make a meaningful contribution in helping deserving students pursue their education.

Assured of a better future

Providing networking, education and development opportunities to the industry, including the young talent,  is one of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng’s (IIG) key aims, and securing support for the growth and mentoring of future leaders is a vital part of this mission.

As we develop leaders in insurance

On 3 February, the Insurance institute of Gauteng (IIG) celebrated the first graduates of the Insurance Leadership Development Programme (ILDP) at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). The ILDP was launched in 2016 following a partnership between IIG, Sasria SOC Limited (SOC) and GIBS.

Meet Sasha Smith, Fulcrum Future Leader Award winner

“I wanted to prove to the people who believed in me that they weren’t wrong," says Sasha Smith, broker consultant at Hollard and winner of the 2016 Fulcrum Future Leader Award. The award is handed to the standout participant in the Insurance Institute of Gauteng’s (IIG) Class of programme.

Using technology to manage risk dynamically

Traditionally, the role of insurance companies was not to provide holistic risk management but rather to fund the adverse consequences of risk. Traditional insurance operates on a simple and static model which ignores the behavioural nature of risk.

Where in the world

Reflecting 5 years later...

It’s been a little over a year since my official involvement with #YourIIG came to an end. But it’s a family that stays together a lifetime and I continue to keep in touch with the many people who make up this wonderful industry and institution. The continuous relevance and transformation of #YourIIG is so good to see but I guess that’s why it’s been around for 100+ years.
