Is your software licensed and up to date?

You cannot touch or see software licensing, but it can be the costliest (and most valuable) component of your IT infrastructure.

Unfortunately, many businesses have no idea what software they have, what licences they own and whether that software is up to date, says Matthew Poulter, SAM Business Unit Manager, First Technology National. This is risky and can lead to overspending if they pay for licences they are not using or they have unlicensed software. Software asset management (SAM) can assist companies with this.

SAM isn’t necessarily a product or service, but a set of best practices that involves assessing, managing and optimising software and licensing. There are some suggested guidelines or frameworks to follow to ensure they get the most out of their software and do not waste money.
