Munich Re announced a slew of new appointments at a Start of the Year lunch event held in Johannesburg on Friday. The new staff members include Duane Hoffeldt (Chief Underwriter), Ingrid van den Goorbergh (Team Leader Technical Pricing), Jacques Kallis (Business Development Actuary), Thandanani Mbhele (Fin Re Actuary in the Financially Motivated Reinsurance Team), Yashna Chetty (Technical Pricing Analyst) and Pinkie Mogane (Claims Consultant). Movers in the company include Mokganyetji Serogole, who has been appointed as Lead: Basis Development in the Technical Pricing Team, and Chris du Toit, who is now Senior Fin Re Actuary within the Financially Motivated Reinsurance Team.
Filipe Nunes, Head of Life at Munich Re, pointed out that the staff complement at Munich Re has more than doubled over the past ten years, with the company’s bottom line following suit. “Munich Re has aged well,” he asserted, referencing the #tenyearchallenge currently popular on social media.
Despite the fact that 2018 was a challenging year all round, with lapses an issue, disposable income strained and new business tough to come by (not to mention cyberattacks and dissatisfied policyholders dominating the headlines), Munich Re is confident that 2019 will be a good year. The company plans to roll out an online cloud-based quotation tool (which will be launched later in the year) and regular client seminars. Its executive briefing will be held in China this year.
Guest speaker at the event, Laurence Beder, spoke about the four issues most pertinent to marketing and branding in 2019: big data, customer-centricity, new-age innovation versus old product development, and brand reputation management.
