Quicksure rewards top brokers

The multi-insurer UMA held its annual broker awards during its 2019 ‘kick-off’ function in Gauteng recently. We chatted to executive chairman John Bunting about the event.

Quicksure hosted its annual broker awards on 22 February, as part of what executive chairman John Bunting called its 2019 kick-off function. “We normally have a year-end function, but this year we decided to have a kick-off function instead, and we combined it with our function for our top brokers,” he explained to RiskAFRICA. The company is celebrating its 29th birthday in April this year – no mean feat in an industry that has gone through some turbulent times (including, most recently, the closure of Lion of Africa).

“We have outlived about 600 UMAs, thousands of brokerages, five or six insurers and three reinsurers,” Bunting explains. “As a multi-insurer UMA, we have seen some companies go down, which has been unfortunate, but we are ultimate survivors, partly because we comply with the FSCA’s rules and regulations. There are mavericks out there, but we toe the line and we are proud of what we have achieved as a business.”

Quicksure recently celebrated receiving two Diamond Arrow Awards for the Best Personal Lines and Best Motorcycle Underwriting Management Agency at the PMR.africa Awards, as well as a Golden Arrow Award for Best Commercial UMA in Africa. “This shows that our team is the best of the best,” Bunting said.

With over 300 guests attending the awards – themed as a Jeans and Lace day – it was a great start to the year for the UMA.

CDI Brokers scooped two awards, for Top Broker SA Commercial and for Top Broker SA Commercial Loss Ratio, with Dearham Management Services named Top Broker SA Personal Lines Loss Ratio and Mmela Financial Services winning the award for Top Broker SA Personal Lines.

Bunting is optimistic that 2019 will be a good year. “The country is on the right track and trying to undo the damage caused by corruption. At least there is talk about recovering the stolen billions. It’s a long road but I see a bright future.”
