The May issue of RISKAfrica is out!

It’s easy to panic about the impact of climate change, particularly when we are so close to cyclone-battered Mozambique, which is still going through hell – torrential rain prevents aid flights from landing and communities are cut off with limited supplies (fortunately MSF Southern Africa has confirmed that 98% of the population in flood-affected areas has been vaccinated against cholera). We take a sobering look at how climate change affects our health, our cities, the insurance picture and the broader risk landscape – but being eternal optimists, we also ask the question: how are we adapting, and what opportunities exist to remake our world? We think you’ll find the articles in our May issue fascinating – even if you do suffer from ‘climate fatigue’.

Looking beyond climate change, we investigate a number of ‘hot topics’. These include the risk of mass lapse events (although insurers have been up to the challenge of implementing SAM, many have been taken aback by the final outcomes upon implementation) and how to ensure business continuity in a VUCA world (civil unrest, including labour strikes, have been a huge issue of late). We also look at how much environmental risk insurance is enough, and whether art is a good alternative asset class. Grab a cup of coffee, put your feet up, have a read – and don’t forget to claim your CPD points!
